SEND And Our Local Offer

We are committed to meeting the needs of all pupils including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

Our expectation is that the children with SEND will receive an education that enables them to make progress so that they:

  • reach achievable but ambitious goals
  • become confident individuals
  • make a successful transition to the next stage of their schooling.

We make sure that a pupil with SEND gets the support they need to meet their special educational need.

Universal Provision

Excellent teaching in an inclusive classroom can be the best way to meet the needs of children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). This is often referred to as 'Quality First Teaching'.   Our universal offer is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of learners.

Targeted Provision

Even with Quality First Teaching, some children will need targeted support, whether this is pastoral or to support with their learning.  We offer a range of targeted support interventions to ensure all children receive the best possible education in our school. This includes counselling, speech and language therapy, 1:1 reading and phonics interventions among others. We are careful to ensure interventions are time-limited and impactful. We schedule interventions to avoid children receiving a narrowed curriculum.

Specialist Provision

A small number of children will require highly specialised provision to meet their specific needs.  We work with speech and language therapists, therapists and other specialists to support pupils as appropriate.  If additional funding is required to meet these needs, the SENCo (in collaboration with the class teacher and external professionals) will apply to the Local Authority for Statutory Assessment of the child to seek an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP).
