Pupil Premium

Statement of Intent

At St James CofE Primary School, we have high aspirations and ambitions for all our children. We believe that all children have the right to an outstanding education.  We want all our pupils to thrive through our Christian values of:  RespectKindnessJoyWisdom and Perseverance

Our aims are:

  1. That all pupils, regardless of background reach their full potential, attaining well and achieving good outcomes.

  1. That all pupils are challenged, including high attainers and those with additional needs.

  1. That we engage all families in their children’s education and support them in having high aspirations for their children.

Pupil premium money is carefully targeted to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as students from less deprived families. At St James CofE Primary, we ensure that spending is directly linked to narrowing the gaps in attainment between pupil premium children and non-pupil premium children. We make use of our own data to expand existing interventions. We strive to ensure that children are exposed to outstanding teaching and learning on a day-to-day basis.

Our approach is to:

  • invest in high quality CPD for all our staff to develop strong teaching skills so that all children can succeed under exceptional teachingThis includes:

    • Class teaching

    • Interventions teaching

  • continue a rigorous cycle of pupil-progress reviews and those pupils who we identify as ‘Vulnerable’ will always be at the centre of our focus;

  • ensure all pupils are challenged in the work that they’re set by monitoring lessons and pupils’ work;

  • make sure that all children have access to the full range of our wide-ranging personal development programme including trips and activities and none will be excluded – we subsidise finances as needed;

  • create a supportive and curious community of staff who sensitively notice, report and respond to concerns for any family so that we can readily support these;

  • adhere to our Racial Equity pledge and Conscious Inclusion programme to support all pupils.

Targeted provision will be used as appropriate alongside our whole school approach to development. We know that all pupils will benefit from improved provision across the whole school and this will likely have a larger impact

We aim to have high quality Universal Provision for all.
