Our New School Lunches
As you know, we have changed our school catering company Monday. Our new caterers, Accent, will be bringing to school a whole new and exciting menu that will changed on a three week rotation. You can find our new menus on this page but they are also displayed on our notice boards and in classroom windows.
In addition to dishes such as Chinese stir fry with noodles, roast turkey with cranberry sauce, traditional lasagne and homemade burgers, every lunch time we will also be providing a vegetarian option such as homemade frittata, Mediterranean paella and wholemeal pasta with green pesto, spinach and parmesan. In addition there will be also be a new salad bar with a range of fresh salads prepared every day, jacket potatoes and a selection of freshly made bread.
We have thought carefully about our dessert offering and have decided – in order to help our children to be as healthy as possible – to limit ‘higher in sugar’ puddings such as sticky Jamaican ginger cake or chocolate mousse pudding with chocolate sauce. Children will be able to choose from desserts such as these twice a week but every day they will also have the option of yoghurt or fresh fruit.
Accent are extremely experienced at catering for primary school palettes and a range of children with all sorts of dietary needs. They are committed to reducing salt and sugar levels in our young children’s food. Their meat is Red Tractor accredited and fruit and vegetables are sourced from the UK where possible. Our meals will be freshly prepared and cooked from scratch every day at Our Lady Of Muswell Hill.
As a number of our children have dietary and allergy issues, you will see that each dish on our menus is clearly marked with ingredients ie: contains milk, contains eggs, contains fish – helping you and your children to make more informed choices. If you do have any queries on this please do let us know.
The cost of our school meals to parents has remained the same for over four years. However, recent rises in the price of food has meant that all caterers have had to increase their cost. Consequently, the new cost of a school meal (for children in Year 3 and above) will be £2.80 per day. School meals for KS1 will still be free to parents. This means that the average cost for school lunches, for a half term will be £98.
We hope you are excited as we are about our new lunches and will agree that it is a huge change for the better. Please do let us know if you have any questions or feedback at all.
