School lunches during COVID 19

We are delighted to let you know that  we are able to offer all our children a hot meal at lunchtime with a new four week rotating menu .

These meals will be freshly prepared by our catering company and delivered to us every day.  Because of this we are asking you to preorder your child’s lunchtime choice until half term.  They are able to choose between a meat or vegetarian option each day - although they cannot swap their choices once these have been made for the half term.

As a reminder meals will cost £2.80 a day (under review) and there will also be a one off charge per child of approximately £5 to pay for the container the meal is delivered in and cutlery.

Please also note we will be unable to offer lunch refunds if your child is off for a school day unless they are self isolating for a two week period that we are aware of in advance.

School Lunches

We are delighted that so many children at St James Primary are now having school lunches and we feel that it's a lot to do with our caterers, Accent, will have brought with them new and exciting menus that will changes on a three week rotation.  You can find our new menus on this page but they are also displayed on our notice boards and in classroom windows.

So in addition to dishes such as Chinese stir fry with noodles, roast turkey with cranberry sauce, traditional lasagne and homemade burgers, every lunch time we will also be providing a vegetarian option such as homemade frittata, Mediterranean paella and wholemeal pasta with green pesto, spinach and parmesan.  In addition there will be also be a new salad bar  with a range of fresh salads prepared every day, jacket potatoes and a selection of freshly made bread.  We have thought carefully about our dessert offering and have decided – in order to help our children to be as healthy as possible – to ensure of puddings are sugar free* and limited to twice a week.   Children will be able to choose desserts twice a week but every day they will also have the option of yoghurt or fresh fruit.

Accent are extremely experienced at catering for primary school palettes and a range of children with all sorts of dietary needs.  They are committed to reducing salt and sugar levels in our young children’s food.  Their meat is Red Tractor accredited and fruit and vegetables are sourced from the UK where possible.  Our meals will be freshly prepared and cooked from scratch every day at Our Lady Of Muswell Hill.

As a number of our children have dietary and allergy issues, you will see that each dish on our menus is clearly marked with ingredients ie: contains milk, contains eggs, contains fish – helping you and your children to make more informed choices. If you do have any queries on this please do let us know.

The cost of our school meals to parents for children in Year 3 and above(who pay for their school meals) will be £2.80 per day.  School meals for KS1 will still be free to parents.   If you would like to find out more about applying for free school meals or you think you might be applicable, please pop in to the School Office and they will be very happy to help.

*We have not replaced sugar with any sweeteners – instead our catering company are using fruit or agave.  Agave nectar has a very low GI — primarily because almost all of the sugar in it is fructose. It has very little glucose, at least when compared to regular sugar and consequently it doesn’t  spike blood sugar levels much
