At St James Primary, music is one of our passions and we love every opportunity to introduce of children to all forms of it - from our hugely popular community choir to our ukulele lunchtime club.
Our Community Choir
We have a very active community choir and practice together every Thursday morning. We perform at our church services at St James and have sung at a range of charity events and school fairs. It's open to everyone who loves to sing and you can ask Mr Renwick and Mrs Garrad for more details.
As part of our varied music programme at St James Primary, we are delighted to continue our association with Apollo music. This is a group of highly trained classical musicians who are committed to making classical music more accessible to younger people.
They come to run assemblies for our KS2 children and a workshop programme with our Year 4s that introduces them to all aspects of classical music and the variety of instruments used in an orchestra. This will culminate in seeing a classical concert played at Regents Hall.
Ukulele Lunchtime Club
We are very excited about this new lunchtime club for Year 1 and 2s, starting in the second half the Spring term. What this space for more information!
Rock Steady Rock Band
This year, both our Year 3 classes have taken part in Rock Steady - where they the chance to learn all the elements of playing in a rock band including electric guitar, vocals, keyboard and drums. It's a fantastic chance for them to get creative and to perform in front of their parents at an end of term show.
Music for our younger classes
On Thursday afternoons, our Key Stage 1 classes have music lessons with a very experienced Haringey music teacher, Ms Alberman. In Year 2, they have been learning ‘call and response songs’ – many of which are linked to Africa which is Year 2’s topic this half term. Children are chosen to lead the ‘call’ part of the song and the rest of the class respond with singing, clapping or actions.
Haringey Music Lessons
At St James Primary we work in close partnership with Haringey Music Services. Every day we have tutors in to teach children in one to one or small group session in instruments such as the drums, guitar, violin, piano and flute. If you would like more information on how to arrange a music lesson for your child, visit Haringey Music Services
Shows and Performances
Whether it's our Nativity, our end of Year 6 show or our termly class assembly we love to sing and perform in front of our parents and families. It helps us to build our confidence and get creative!
